About the Director

Scott L. Martin is the choral director at Creekview High School (Cherokee County School District) in Canton, Georgia. He holds a Master of Music Education degree from The University of Georgia and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Shorter College, where he was a voice student of John Ramsaur, a conducting student of John Ratledge, and a NATS winner.

As a clinician, Mr. Martin has conducted honor choirs throughout Georgia and is a head adjudicator for the GMEA Choral Performance Evaluation. Choirs under his direction routinely earn superior ratings at performance evaluation and have been selected to perform for multiple GMEA conferences (2004, 2014, 2016, 2019, and 2025) and state (2015 and 2024) and regional (2016) ACDA conferences.  Mr. Martin is the past ACDA high school repertoire and resources chair and the past GMEA state choral chair.  In 2025 he was honored as the GMEA Music Educator of the Year.

Mr. Martin is artistic director and principal conductor of the Cherokee Chorale, based in Cherokee County, GA.  He made his Carnegie Hall conducting debut with the Chorale in June 2026 conducting Elaine Hagenberg’s “Illuminare.”

On the other side of the podium, Mr. Martin is a frequent guest soloist and a former member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus and the Atlanta-based chamber choir, Coro Vocati. He is a founding member of the Orpheus Men’s Ensemble, a choir comprised of local choral directors and church music directors.

Mr. Martin is married to Laura Burgess Martin, who is choral director at Creekland Middle School.  They live in Canton with their children Joseph, Emily, and Gracie.
